Reader discretion advised: graphic images.

Pet ownership is growing in Vietnam, but being a pet owner is difficult because it is a dog and cat eating country, without animal cruelty laws or consequences. Many pet owners live in fear of having their dog or cat stolen for meat, by marauding dog thieves who sell the stolen animals to dog butchers and restaurants for human consumption.

Notice the dog’s right eye hanging underneath the eye-socket, on his cheek.

In Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), this pet dog was repeatedly stabbed by a crazed next door neighbor who didn’t want a dog living next door to him, being treated as a pet. The man caused massive injuries to the dog, leaving near-fatal wounds.

The knife wielding neighbor also slit the dog’s throat open, but remarkably, did not severe it’s windpipe or main artery!

The photographs were taken at the local veterinary surgery in Ho Chi Minh City, where the dog was treated. Although alive, the dog now has to fight off infections to regain his health and he will be permanently blind in his right eye.

The vet stitching the dog back together again.

As well as having his throat slashed open and stabbed in the right eye, the dog also received a deep slash across his right shoulder, which will leave him lame for some time.  It is remarkable that the dog survived such a vicious attack from such a brutal human.

Dazed and confused, the dog has been stitched up but will take a long tome to recover from the physical injuries, and even longer for the emotional injuries.

Thankfully the dog’s owner acted immediately and took his dog for professional medical help. I will follow this story and bring an update of this dog, when possible.
